Insurance firm Aon has agreed a deal to lease office space in the so-called Cheesegrater in the City of London.

The company is to rent some 191,000 square feet of office space at the Leadenhall building from British Land, occupying floors four to 13.

Under the terms of the pre-let agreement, Aon, which is the Cheesegrater’s first client, can expand its holding of the 610,000 sq ft, 47-floor development in future by taking up the 85,000 sq ft area covered by floors 14 to 18.

Chief executive officer of Aon Robert Brown said: “The Aon Centre at the Leadenhall Building is an impressive location and the offices will reflect our position as the leading global professional services firm focused on risk and human capital management.”

Construction of the Leadenhall building started in January and is expected to be complete by 2014, with take-up expected to be high amid growing demand for centrally located office space in recent months.
