A major office development in the East End of Glasgow has been the go-ahead, it has been announced.

The path to progress with the project was cleared after Aviva agreed to finance the £10 million, 6,800 sq ft building.

Work, to be undertaken by Scottish firm the Dawn Group, is expected to commence this month and is scheduled to be complete by February 2012.

The project which will be occupied by Glasgow Community Safety Services, is part of a massive regeneration scheme in Bridgeton being overseen by the Clyde Gateway Regeneration Company.

Ian Manson, chief executive of Clyde Gateway, said: “This is an important milestone in the regeneration proposals for Clyde Gateway and the latest piece of good news for the Bridgeton area.

“The Eastgate development is one we identified as being hugely significant in the first phase of Clyde Gateway and we are very pleased that the support of the city council has enabled Aviva and Dawn to be our first private sector partners.”

Manson’s sentiments were echoed by Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson who described the development as “a fantastic outcome for all the parties involved”.
