The Kings Place office development in London’s King’s Cross has scooped two top prizes at the British Council for Offices’ (BCO) annual awards ceremony.

A panel of judges proclaimed the development the best of the year and also named it’s the best commercial workplace.

Facets of the building that were deemed especially praiseworthy were Kings Place’s innovative design and the quality of its construction.

The building’s incorporation of a vast deep propped basement were also noted by the judges, as was the impact it has had on regenerating the area.

John Forrester, chairman of the BCO awards, said: “This year’s best of the best is a project which changes the art of the possible. Once every decade or so a building comes along which alters the common understanding of what is commercially possible.

“Kings Place has not just moved the goalposts – it rewrote the book on how commercial property can integrate with the life of a city.”

Other award winners on the night included the Pottertow Development in Edinburgh, which won Best Corporate Workplace, and the Memphis Building for Student Loans Company, which won Best Refurbished/Recycled Workplace.
