Over 250,000 square metres of prime office space is to be created by the first two buildings to go up as part of the Wood Wharf scheme in London’s Docklands.
The scale of the office buildings, currently dubbed W01 and W02-03, was revealed in planning applications submitted to Tower Hamlets Council. They are the first stage of a construction project which will span some seven hectares once completed.
W01 is to be 134m tall will account for 84,647 square metres of the office space and will be designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, which was heavily acclaimed for its work on Canary Wharf’s Clifford Chance building.
Meanwhile, Pelli Clarke Pelli, whose previous work includes One Canada Square, has provided the design for W02-03. This will be home to 155,023 square metres of office space and will be 194 metres high.
Jason Larkin, Wood Wharf’s executive director of planning, said: “We have engaged two of the world’s great architectural practices to kick start the Wood Wharf development.
“They have designed two stunning buildings which will set the standards for next phases of development at Wood Wharf.”
As well as office space, the Wood Wharf project includes provisions for residential buildings, of which 35 per cent is earmarked for affordable housing.
The scheme will take place in four stages and is expected to take up to 15 years to complete.
