Glasgow-based Capella group has unveiled plans for the £90m development that will include two blocks of prime office space and a conference centre, as well as a six-storey hotel and health club.
Glasgow City Council has granted outline permission for the Atlantic Square development. The major development will consist of office space, retail and leisure facilities and will provide more than two thousand jobs to the area.
The Atlantic Square office development will total more than two hundred thousand square feet. The offices will be set in a regenerated area of the city, which used to be dominated by warehouses but is now the International Financial Services District (IFSD). The area has been dubbed ‘Wall Street on the Clyde’ in recent years thanks to office space take up from companies like Barclays, Morgan Stanley and Direct Line.
Developers plan to retain the grade A-listed 19th century warehouse facade of one of the buildings built around the former Broomielaw Quay.
Chief Executive of the Capella Group, Jim Fitzsimmons said: “The IFSD initiative has been tremendously successful in attracting thousands of jobs and many millions of pounds of investment to Glasgow and the addition of high-quality office space at Atlantic Square will further enhance its profile.
“Broomielaw is now being regarded in the same way as the traditional city centre by business occupiers.”
