The latest office space to join ‘The Gherkin’ on the City of London’s skyline has already been dubbed ‘The Can of Ham’ due to it’s curved glass and steel design.
Foggo Architects are behind the design for the 18 storey office space that’s curved and polished steel facades have given rise to the nickname ‘The Can of Ham’. Developers Targetfollow submitted plans for the tower in August and The London City Corporation announced today that the the already controversial office space building could go ahead.
The site is located in the heart of the City, close to Norman Foster’s Swiss RE office space building and the Heron Tower development. The two buildings currently situated on the prime St Mary’s Axe office space site will demolished to make way for Foggo’s 90m high curved tower.
As well as 18 floors of grade A office space, the ‘Can of Ham’ will contain retail space at ground level. Targetfollow’s Development Director Julian Wells said “The design is spectacular and we think it will add a huge amount to the City skyscape. It has been designed to sit in the foothills of the major tower cluster in this part of the city and we think it will fit in very naturally and add to that view.”
