New Scotland Yard goes up for sale

spore_skyline01-bThe 20 storey office space property, home to the head office of the London Metropolitan Police has been put on the market by owners Land Securities.

Land Securities have been renting the central London office space to the London Metropolitan Police since the 1960’s. The force currently pay rent approaching £500 thousand per year.

It’s not thought the sale of the building will impact upon the London Met’s occupation of the £100m office space building, it’s likely the new owners of the freehold will renew the force’s lease.

The office space is currently home to senior officers and several units inlcuding Counter Terrorism Command.

Land Securities said that there has been “strong investor interest” in the office space, which they described as an “exceptional piece of London real estate with national prominence”

A Metropolitan Police Spokesman said: “Since the MPA was informed of Land Securities’ decision to dispose of their freehold interest in New Scotland Yard, the MPA has been exploring all possible options. No decision has yet been taken, but the options will be discussed by a special meeting of the full authority on 13 November.”
