Plans to build the largest office building in Derbyshire were revealed by Norseman Investments a Derbyshire-based company.
The proposed development will bring 400,000 sq ft of office space to the city across six buildings on three acres between Siddals Road and Traffic Street.
The site situated across the road from Westfield Derby shopping centre is owned by car dealership Speeds Limited who have agreed to sell once planning permission has been granted.
A planning application is due to be submitted in early September which, if granted, should see work beginning in early 2009 and being completed in 2011.
“The news is a major boost in confidence, particularly in the current market climate, and shows that Derby will be the hotspot for such important developments in the next five to 10 years.” Says John Forkin, head of Marketing Derby, an organisation set up to promote the city.
He continues “This shows we are developing the city centre as a prestigious office location for business following the success of Pride Park.”
“This development would create a major new destination in the city centre and allow Derby to compete nationally for further corporate and public sector occupiers and thereby generate additional employment opportunities.” Says Duncan Ashby, Norseman Investments’ managing director.
