The BMA warns that patient confidentiality may be compromised due to cut-backs to doctors’ office spaces.
Doctors at all levels in their profession are feeling the office space squeeze, according to its survey of 594 UK hospitals.
“Many consultants, junior doctors, and staff and associate specialist grade doctors have no office space at all…There is little doubt that working practices are being adversely affected, and that this can ultimately be detrimental to patient care,” says Dr Jonathan Fielden who chairs the BMA’s Consultants Committee.
Reduced trust budgets and increased demands from NHS managers for office spaces have been cited as reasons for the shortage.
